Indiana University - Bloomington: Residence Hall Furniture Setup Guide

Furniture options vary by residence hall, room, and furniture type. Use this guide to understand your room’s typical starting setup and determine which options may be available before submitting an order.

Important: The information below is a general guide. Your assigned room may have a different setup, especially in Briscoe and Collins. Available changes are determined by your residence hall and the furniture installed in your room.

Understanding bed heights

• Down: The bed is set at a traditional height near the floor.
• Low-loft: The bed is raised approximately 3 feet from the floor.
• High/modular loft: The bed is raised approximately 5 feet from the floor.
• Bunked: One bed is positioned directly above another.
• L-loft: One bed is fully lofted while the other remains down and is positioned in an “L” shape.

Typical move-in setup by residence hall

Briscoe and Collins have the greatest variety of starting configurations. Residents in these halls should confirm the furniture currently in their assigned room before requesting a change.

Halls where loft-height adjustments may be requested

Loft-height adjustments are generally available only in:

- McNutt Hall

- Walnut Grove

- Foster Hall

- Wright Hall

Halls without height adjustments

Bed-height adjustments are not available in:

- Briscoe Hall

- Collins Hall

- Teter Hall

- Forest Hall

- Spruce Hall

- Eigenmann Hall

- Read Hall

- Well Hall

Some rooms in these buildings may already contain bunked, lofted, or L-loft-style furniture. “No height adjustments” means the installed height cannot be changed upon request.

Before placing an order

Before ordering a furniture setup with us, please:

1. Confirm your residence hall and room number.
2. Review the typical starting setup for the assigned residence hall above.
3. Confirm whether loft-height adjustments are available in that building.
4. Coordinate with your roommate before requesting a shared-room configuration such as bunked or L-loft-style beds.
5. Submit an order through our website.

When placing the order, be prepared to provide:

• Student's name
• Student's school email
• Student's phone number
• Residence hall & room number
  • If your housing assignment is unknown, you may still place an order! Select hall as "Unknown" and enter the room number as 0 (zero). Once known, submit a ticket and our team will update your order.

What happens after an order is placed?

Bedloft receives and reviews the order to confirm that the selected setup is available for the student's residence hall, room, and furniture type.

If the order can be completed as placed, Bedloft will fulfill the furniture setup. Completion timing may depend on order volume, access to the room, and scheduling availability.

If the selected setup is not compatible with the room, Bedloft may contact the student or customer for additional information or to discuss available alternatives.

Customers should make sure Bedloft has accurate contact and room-assignment information. Any housing or room change should be communicated promptly, as it may affect the order and available furniture options.

SAFETY REMINDER
Do not raise, lower, bunk, unbunk, or disassemble university furniture yourself. Furniture changes must be completed or approved by Bedloft or university staff. Unauthorized adjustments may damage the furniture or create a safety risk.
